Coronavirus/COVID-19 Update

Visit Belmont’s Coronavirus website for current information on how the University is responding to this public health crisis.

Health Services is currently open Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. for essential scheduled services and to answer your health-related questions. Please call 615-460-5506 if you would like to speak to a nurse.

If you have a current illness you suspect resembles COVID-19 and you are in the Nashville area:

Call the Tennessee Coronavirus Public Information Lines available daily from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. CDT. Call 833-556-2476 or 877-857-2945 for information about screening and testing.

If you are outside of the Nashville area:

Undergraduate Students: Check with your local or state health department for COVID-19 testing sites and procedures or call ahead to your primary care provider, local urgent care clinic, or emergency facility for further instruction.

Graduate Students: Call your primary care providers
Graduate students who have Belmont-sponsored health insurance through United Healthcare can also use their 24/7 on-call physician service: 1-855-870-5858 or visit www.telehealth4students.com.

Faculty and Staff: Call your primary care providers
Employees with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee health insurance may call (800) 818-8581 to speak to a nurse. This is a free service for members. 

It is important to call ahead before making an appointment to receive proper instruction and prevent disease transmission.

Belmont University Health Services, located in McWhorter Hall room 106, provides non-emergent, outpatient medical care for all currently enrolled students, staff, and faculty. Belmont University Health Services is staffed by board certified nurse practitioners that are experienced in treating various medical problems. Services include visits for acute illnesses, physical exams, screenings, immunizations, lab services, TB skin testing, and allergy shots.

In order to better serve you, we ask that our patients schedule appointments in advance by taking advantage of the online scheduling tool. For instructions on how to schedule an appointment online visit the “Appointments” tab. Most acute, but not urgent, appointments are usually scheduled within 24 hours. Patients with appointments are seen first except in emergency (urgent care) situations.        

Walk-in appointments are accepted based on availability and need. Patients requesting urgent care will be triaged by the nursing staff to assess seriousness of condition and need for immediate care. These patients are seen based on their triaged level of acuteness.

Patients who present to the Student Health Center with emergent medical issues will be referred to a local emergency room. Transportation is dependent on a patient's condition, either by Emergency Medical Service (EMS) or a Privately Owned Vehicle (POV), and is not a Health Center provided/covered service.

Services and Fees

Students will not be charged for office visits, but will incur minimal charges for services such as injections, tests, and immunizations. University Health Services accepts cash, check, credit cards, debit cards, and some HSA/FSA’s. We do not accept declining points, charge student accounts, or bill insurance.

Preparing for your Appointment

Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment time in order to complete any necessary administrative procedures and avoid reducing the amount of time that the provider is able to dedicate to your care. A photo ID is required and your Belmont University ID is preferred. Please bring all current medications and have your insurance card(s) with you at each visit for possible diagnostic testing or referrals.

As we do not desire to impose delays on those who have otherwise arrived on time, patients who arrive 6 minutes after their appointment time will need to see our front desk staff to reschedule their appointment. An exception to this policy will only be made in situations where immediate evaluation and care are necessary.

Class Excuses

Student Health Services encourages the development of responsible health care habits by holding students accountable for their decisions regarding class attendance. Therefore, medical excuses will not routinely be issued for missed classes or examinations. However, exceptions may be made in cases of severe illnesses requiring an extended recovery period. These statements are provided on an individual basis. It is the student’s responsibility to communicate directly with the instructors. Please review the Belmont University Class Attendance Policy.
